The 2027 General Election in Kenya may take an unexpected turn, with Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino hinting at a possible joint presidential bid alongside Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
This new development could add a fresh dynamic to an already competitive race.
While speaking during a morning show on Hot 96, Babu Owino said many of his followers have been encouraging him to contest for the presidency.
He explained that his leadership journey began during his university years as a student leader at the University of Nairobi.
Since then, he has built up a wealth of leadership experience that, according to him, makes him capable of leading the country.
Babu praised Ndindi Nyoro, describing him as a hardworking and results-oriented leader. He acknowledged that even though Ndindi was recently removed from his position as chair of the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee, he still sees him as a strong and capable partner for a joint presidential ticket.
“It all depends on how we agree with my brother Ndindi. He is a performer. If the two of us decided today to run for the presidency, we would win very early in the morning — even without hiring agents,” Babu said confidently during the interview.
He also opened up about what motivates him to consider running for the presidency. Babu said that his inspiration comes from young leaders around the world who have proven that youth can lead effectively.
He gave an example of Burkina Faso’s young leader, Ibrahim Traore, who is his personal friend and has shown that with the right mindset, youth can take charge and bring about change.
Babu did not shy away from criticizing President William Ruto, saying the president had failed to fulfill the hopes that many Kenyans had when they elected him in 2022.
According to Babu, Ruto had the potential to become one of Kenya’s greatest presidents due to his humble beginnings, but he has lost the people’s trust.
“I am genuinely disappointed because President Ruto had the chance to be the best president Kenya ever had.
He came from a very humble background, and we believed he would understand the struggles of ordinary citizens.
When he won in 2022, I was certain he had secured his re-election for 2027. But now, as we move closer to 2027, he is already losing support because of clear issues like overtaxation and the high cost of living,” Babu stated.
The outspoken MP also revealed that he is open to forming alliances with other political heavyweights.
He mentioned several influential leaders who could potentially join forces with him, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, Eugene Wamalwa, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, and George Natembeya.
Babu Owino’s remarks show that the 2027 presidential race might bring unexpected political partnerships, especially if he and Ndindi Nyoro — two leaders from different political camps — decide to run together.
If this happens, it could shift the country’s political landscape and create a unique generational alliance that challenges traditional party lines.
