US Launches Free Visa and Sponsorship Program for Young Kenyans
The United States has introduced a new opportunity for Kenyan youth through the Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) Program, which offers free US J-1 visas and full sponsorship for selected participants.
This initiative is aimed at young Kenyans aged between 21 and 27 who are actively working to bring positive change to their communities.
The CEE Program is a powerful platform created to support and empower rising leaders in civil society from around the world.
It gives them a chance to gain valuable experience, build leadership skills, and be part of a global network of changemakers.
Those who are selected will be able to travel to the United States without worrying about visa costs or travel arrangements.
Sponsored by the US Department of State, the program equips young leaders with training, mentorship, and resources to help them create lasting impact in their home communities.
“Are you a young Kenyan leader passionate about making a difference? Apply for the CEE Program to gain practical experience in the US, sharpen your leadership skills, and connect with changemakers from across the globe,” a statement from the US Embassy in Nairobi encouraged.
Every year, the CEE Program selects emerging leaders from more than 100 countries and offers them a year-long leadership journey.
A key part of the program is a three-month placement (practicum) in the US, where fellows work directly with American civil society organizations, learning through hands-on experiences and real-world projects.
Once they return to their countries, the fellows are supported with mentorship and resources to carry out community engagement projects.
These projects are designed by the fellows themselves and focus on solving challenges in their own local areas, ensuring the skills and knowledge gained in the US are applied back home.
One of the most important elements of the program is the Community Engagement Project (CEP), which gives fellows a chance to turn their ideas into actions that address real community issues.
It ensures the impact of the program extends far beyond the US experience.
Participants in the program enjoy a range of benefits, including fully covered travel expenses, a monthly living stipend to take care of housing, meals, and daily needs, as well as health insurance during their stay in the US.
Additionally, they receive financial support for their community projects after they return home.
To qualify, applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 27 and should have at least two years of experience in community work—either as professionals or volunteers. They must also be eligible citizens of Kenya.
Kenyans interested in this exciting opportunity have until May 22 to submit their applications for the 2026 cohort of the CEE Program.
