Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi has finally come forward with his account of the terrifying events surrounding his alleged abduction, weeks after the incident shocked the nation and stirred up political debate.
His sudden disappearance had sparked intense speculation in Kenya, with some people suggesting he may have faked the whole incident for political reasons.
However, speaking from his hospital bed, Koimburi dismissed those claims, insisting the abduction was real and traumatic. He detailed how the ordeal unfolded and the physical and emotional impact it left on him.
“It happened on May 25,” he began. “I had just finished attending a church service at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya.
As I was leaving, I was ambushed by a group of unknown men. They blindfolded me and used some substance through my nose that knocked me unconscious.”
The MP said the drugged assault left him completely unaware of what happened next. When he woke up, it was the next day, and he found himself lying in a coffee plantation, disoriented and weak.
“When I regained consciousness the following morning, I was in a coffee farm. Luckily, a good Samaritan — a boda boda (motorbike taxi) rider — found me and informed my family. They rushed to the scene and took me to the hospital,” he explained.
Koimburi condemned not just his abduction but what he described as a rising trend of enforced disappearances and torture cases in the country. He said his experience should serve as a wake-up call and urged the government to take firm action.
“I’ve gone through it myself, and I know the pain it brings. I ask Kenyans to keep praying for our country.
At the same time, I urge the government to act. We must not allow those behind these abductions to continue walking free and terrorizing others,” he stated.
However, Koimburi’s story has not convinced everyone. The police, led by Inspector General Douglas Kanja, previously accused the MP of faking his own abduction, claiming it was a politically motivated stunt.
After interrogating three suspects connected to the incident, police said their findings revealed serious inconsistencies that cast doubt on the alleged kidnapping.
According to investigators, the evidence did not support a genuine abduction. Instead, they suspect Koimburi, who is associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, might have staged the event to create political tension.
Despite these accusations, Koimburi’s account has brought renewed focus to growing concerns over security and human rights violations in Kenya.
His case has once again raised questions about the safety of public figures, the state’s ability to protect its citizens, and the accountability of law enforcement.
Many Kenyans — whether skeptical or supportive — are now calling for a full, impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind the MP’s disappearance and ensure justice is served.
