OCS Talaam Speaks Out on Allegations in Albert Ojwang’s Death

Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Central Police Station, Samson Talaam, has finally broken his silence after being accused of involvement in the death of popular influencer Albert Ojwang. Talaam firmly denied the claims, saying, “It was not me.”

While giving his side of the story to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Talaam explained what happened on the day Ojwang died. He said that Ojwang was brought into Central Police Station in a very critical condition, and not in good health at all.

Talaam claimed that once he was informed about the situation, he and other officers did everything they could to try and save Ojwang’s life. According to his account, they even rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.

Talaam went on to clarify that reports suggesting he refused to have Ojwang booked at the station were not true. He said that he wasn’t even at the station when Ojwang arrived. It was only after receiving a call about Ojwang’s serious condition that he returned to the station and got involved in the matter.

His statement came just a day after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Mohammed Amin, pointed him out as the main suspect in the case.

Amin, while speaking before the Senate on Tuesday, June 11, made strong accusations against Talaam. He said that Talaam was the person most responsible for the events that led to Ojwang’s death on Sunday, June 8.

According to Amin, the officers working at the report office had contacted Talaam when Ojwang was brought in, but Talaam allegedly refused to approve his booking into custody.

Amin stated, “It has further been confirmed that before the booking, the report office personnel called the OCS, who declined to book the suspect.” He added, “Talaam is the OCS of Central Police Station, and by the totality of things, he should be treated as the prime suspect in this matter.”

After the incident came to light and the role of officers at Central Police Station was questioned, Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, took immediate action. He interdicted Talaam along with five other officers connected to the case.

The other officers who were suspended include the deputy OCS, the deputy non-commissioned officer, the crime aid officer, the officer responsible for guarding the cells (cell sentry), and the personnel working at the report office.

The investigation into the death of Albert Ojwang is still ongoing, with Kenyans closely following the developments and demanding justice for the late influencer.

Talaam, now under serious scrutiny, continues to maintain his innocence as the IPOA and other authorities dig deeper into what really happened on that tragic day.
