A new turn in the investigation into the death of Kenyan blogger Albert Ojwang has come to light following the release of CCTV footage capturing the moments leading up to his death.
The video, which was reviewed by Newshub.co.ke, shows a police vehicle arriving at Mbagathi Hospital at exactly 1:35 am.
Three police officers step out of the vehicle, with two of them seen having a short conversation before heading toward the hospital’s casualty department.
Meanwhile, Ojwang is left alone in the back of the police vehicle, receiving no immediate medical attention.
Two minutes later, at 1:37 am, the same officers return and are seen making phone calls outside the hospital. It isn’t until 1:46 am—11 minutes later—that two officers are seen coming out of the hospital carrying a stretcher.
They are later joined by a hospital guard who helps them as they prepare to move Ojwang. Surprisingly, they take another 12 minutes before finally placing Ojwang on the stretcher.
By this time, 24 minutes had passed since they first arrived at the hospital, raising serious concerns about the apparent lack of urgency in handling the situation.
After taking Ojwang into the casualty section, the officers remain inside for another 10 minutes. At 2:11 am, they are seen wheeling out his body, suggesting that medical personnel had just confirmed he was dead. Four minutes later, at 2:15 am, the police vehicle leaves the hospital with the late blogger’s body.
This footage seems to support earlier statements by medical staff at Mbagathi Hospital. According to the hospital report, Ojwang was brought in around 2:00 am on June 8 and was already unresponsive when he arrived.
The report further described the injuries Ojwang sustained—his face was swollen, and his body was covered with multiple bruises, particularly on his limbs—indicating that he had suffered a brutal beating before his death.
This latest development comes just a day after police arrested another suspect linked to the case. The suspect is accused of tampering with CCTV evidence from the Central Police Station in Nairobi, where Ojwang had been held prior to his death.
Authorities reportedly arrested the suspect on the morning of Friday, June 13, during a carefully planned operation at his home in one of Nairobi’s densely populated estates.
The emergence of the CCTV footage and the arrest of a suspect connected to deleted evidence have deepened the mystery surrounding Ojwang’s death.
These events have also intensified calls for a transparent and thorough investigation into the actions of the officers involved and the circumstances under which the blogger lost his life.
