The National Youth Service (NYS) has strongly denied allegations that its vehicles were used to transport individuals who took part in criminal activities during the recent Saba Saba protests held in Naivasha.
In an official statement, the NYS dismissed the claims circulating on social media as completely false, misleading, and without any factual basis. The agency made it clear that none of its vehicles were involved in any way during the events in question.
The accusations, which have been widely shared across social media platforms and picked up by some news outlets, alleged that NYS buses were seen transporting people who were later involved in violent acts and looting during the demonstrations.
“These claims are not only unfounded and damaging, but they also appear to be a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the National Youth Service,” read part of the NYS statement. “We are an institution that upholds discipline, patriotism, and the commitment to national progress.”
The NYS went on to explain that all of its operations, including the deployment of vehicles and personnel, follow strict protocols and are always properly recorded. According to the agency, there is no official record showing that any NYS vehicles were sent to Naivasha for any activity during the protest period.
“All NYS vehicles and equipment are tracked and managed under strict procedures. Any movement of our assets is recorded and can be verified at any time,” the statement emphasized.
The agency also stressed that it maintains a non-political stance, insisting that it has never taken part in political activities or unlawful conduct.
“Linking NYS to any criminal acts or politically driven actions is a serious distortion of our principles and values,” the agency added.
In addition, NYS urged the public, members of the media, and political figures to be careful and responsible when sharing information, especially when it is not verified.
“We ask the public, journalists, and leaders to avoid spreading false or unconfirmed reports,” said the statement.
Saba Saba Day is a significant date in Kenya’s history, traditionally used to advocate for civil rights and reforms. However, this year’s commemorations turned chaotic, with incidents of violence, looting, and even deaths reported across different parts of the country.
Naivasha was among the towns that experienced heightened unrest during the protests, sparking tension and a wave of accusations. The situation has left many calling for accountability and truth in reporting to prevent the spread of misinformation and preserve public trust.
