CS Joho Appoints 83 People to Serve in New Government Committees
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has officially appointed 83 individuals to serve in newly formed government committees that will foster partnerships between local communities and various companies involved in mining and construction.
In a Gazette Notice issued on August 1, CS Joho announced the establishment of nine Community Development Agreement Committees (CDACs). These committees were formed in line with Regulation 7(1) of the Mining (Community Development Agreement) Regulations.
Their main goal is to ensure communities benefit from mining and construction activities carried out in their areas by fostering structured engagement between the locals and companies.
The first committee to be formed brought together the Jaribuni Community from Kauma Sub-county in Kilifi County and Victoria Engineering Company Limited.
This committee has 14 members. The names listed in the Gazette Notice include Omar Said Omar, Agnes Wangari Wachira, Peter Shehe, Cameline Harusi, Johnson Mwanje, Sara Mkambe, Alex Chai, Glaris Meya Ndaa, Simon Mwakudza, Justus Kadenge, Janet Mbucha Kesi, Daniel K. Zambava, Sandys K. Ngoya, and Lilian K. Chiguba.
A second committee was also created between the Jaribuni Community and S.S. Mehta and Sons Limited. Interestingly, the first three individuals from the first committee—Omar Said Omar, Agnes Wangari Wachira, and Peter Shehe—were included again in this second group, alongside 11 other members.
These same three individuals were once again named in the third committee, which was formed between the Jaribuni Community and Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group Company Limited.
The trend continued in the fourth committee formed between the Jaribuni Community and China Civil Engineering Construction Limited.
The group had 14 members in total, including the initial three mentioned above and 11 additional names not featured in the earlier committees.
The fifth committee followed the same pattern. It also involved the Jaribuni Community, this time partnering with Shree Sahjanand Vijay Enterprise Limited. Again, 14 members were appointed, including the recurring trio.
However, there was a shift in the sixth committee, which included entirely new members from a different community. This group brought together the Boyani Community from Rabai Sub-county in Kilifi County and Karsan Ramji & Sons Company Limited.
This committee introduced a fresh list of 14 individuals, namely Vincent Yeri Chengo, Fatuma Mohamed Sarai, Mae Mwadema, Mwanaharusi Dudu, Philip Muthami, Grace Lwambi, Douglas Kimweli, Tsimba Mkamba, Daniel Osoro, Mwalimu Ngati, Anthony Kenga, Nzaka Munga, Ravji Vekaria, and Kishor Kumar Varsani.
The seventh committee also involved the Boyani Community and was again formed with Karsan Ramji & Sons Company Limited. It included the same new members from the previous Boyani committee.
The eighth and ninth committees returned to the Jaribuni Community. One was a renewed agreement with Victoria Engineering Company Limited, while the other was with Shree Laxmi Concrete Limited.
In total, 83 appointments were made to serve in these nine committees. These appointments were officially recorded on July 9, as per the gazette notice.
The creation of these committees marks a significant move by the Ministry of Mining to ensure community voices are heard and represented in agreements that impact their land and livelihood.
