Student Who Confronted Ruto in Kakamega Reveals What Happened After Function

Student Who Challenged Ruto in Kakamega Shares What Happened After the Event

The university student who went viral after boldly addressing President William Ruto during the International Youth Day celebrations in Kakamega County on August 12 has finally opened up about what happened after that moment.

Jevin Oyoo, who was widely praised online for fearlessly speaking to the President and asking him to support struggling NGOs and youth programs, has revealed the conversation that followed his viral speech.

In a recent TV interview, Jevin said that after the event, he actually got a chance to speak with President Ruto privately. He explained that the Head of State called him to a private place behind the tent, where they exchanged contacts.

“Yes, I spoke to the President behind the tent. It was not easy at all,” Jevin said. “To be honest, I became the first person in my family to ever speak directly to a President. He told me to write down his number and assured me that he would talk to me later.”

However, Jevin mentioned that some of his fellow youth, who had traveled with him all the way from Uasin Gishu to Kakamega, felt disappointed because the conversation ended with just an exchange of phone numbers, and they expected more action.

Shockingly, the President later called him – not once, but twice – and Jevin ignored both calls because he was afraid it might be someone threatening him instead of Ruto himself.

“He called me, but I did not pick because I thought maybe it was the President’s assistant, threatening me or warning me,” Jevin said. “Later he texted me a simple ‘Hello’. That’s when I called him back, and he actually picked my call. He asked me, ‘What do you want?’”

Jevin explained that when the President asked him that question, he felt a lot of pressure because he did not want to sound like he was only thinking about himself. So he decided to talk about the youth empowerment program he was running in Uasin Gishu County.

“I told him about a community-based organization I’m running that has over 50 young people. We are really struggling because we don’t have grants or any financial support,” he said. “I requested him to help us get funding so that the program can continue empowering youths. The President said he would look into it.”

When asked what exactly they discussed in their first private talk “behind the tent” on August 12, Jevin refused to give full details. He said that if he reveals everything they discussed, strangers might start calling him and disturbing him unnecessarily.

Jevin, who is a university student, also said that he is deeply involved in activism and standing up for youth rights. Because of his outspoken nature, some people call him “Omba Omba Comrade” – a nickname he has now accepted and embraced as part of his identity.

Overall, his bold move not only made headlines but also opened a rare direct link between him and the President. Many Kenyans are now watching to see if the promise to help his organization will be fulfilled.
