How to Check Your HELB Loan Balance Online

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has provided clear instructions for borrowers who want to check their loan balance or access their loan statements. According to a notice released on Monday, August 25, HELB confirmed that borrowers can easily view their loan information through the loanee portal or the mobile app.

Through the portal, borrowers can see their current loan balance, whether they have started repaying or are yet to begin. This feature allows users to track repayments, view the total amount owed, and access detailed loan statements.

“You can conveniently check your loan balance and download your statement from the HELB Portal at helb.co.ke/loanees-portal,” the notice stated. “All you need to do is log in, navigate to the self-serve tab, and select the loan statement option.”

Step-by-Step Guide to Checking Your HELB Loan Balance Online

  1. Access the Loanee Portal
Visit helb.co.ke/loanees-portal and either log in to your account or create a new one if you are a first-time user.
  2. Register as a First-Time User
If it is your first time on the portal, you will need to register by providing personal information such as your email address and National Identification number.
  3. Activate Your Account
After registration, you will receive an activation link via your email. Click on this link to activate your account, and you will then be able to access all services available on the portal.
  4. Navigate the Dashboard
Once logged in, go to the “self-serve” tab on your account dashboard.
  5. View Your Loan Statement
Click on the “statement” tab to access your HELB loan balances. The portal provides not only your current balance but also a full record of all loans taken during your higher education. This includes funds deposited directly into your account for personal upkeep and those paid to your institution for tuition.
  6. Check Loan Timelines
The portal also shows the timelines for all your loans, giving you a clear view of when funds were disbursed and your repayment schedule.
  7. Obtain Compliance Certificates
After fully repaying your HELB loans, you can also use the self-serve tab to request compliance certificates through the Higher Education Fund (HEF) portal. This ensures you have official documentation showing that your loan obligations have been fulfilled.

By following these steps, borrowers can stay fully informed about their HELB loans, monitor repayments, and maintain a clear record of all transactions related to their higher education funding.
