Kenya Met Department Warns of Rains, Chilly Weather, and Strong Winds in Several Regions This Week
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a fresh weather update, warning Kenyans in different parts of the country to prepare for continued rains, cold conditions, and strong winds in the coming days.
In its five-day forecast covering Tuesday, August 26, to Saturday, August 30, the weatherman explained that rainfall will remain widespread in several areas.
Regions that will be most affected include the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and large parts of the Rift Valley. These areas are expected to experience consistent showers both during the day and night for most of the week.
Meanwhile, other regions such as the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-Eastern lowlands, and some parts of the Rift Valley will mainly face cloudy and chilly weather conditions.
The department noted that residents in these areas should expect grey skies and cold mornings and evenings throughout the forecast period.
Strong Winds Expected in Some Regions
Apart from the rain and cold, the department also cautioned that strong south-easterly winds, blowing at speeds of over 25 knots, will affect parts of the country.
These winds are forecast to sweep through the coastal areas, the South Eastern lowlands, as well as North Eastern and North Western Kenya.
Residents, especially fishermen and small-scale transport operators, have been urged to remain cautious as these winds may disrupt normal activities along the coast and open plains.

The forecast gave a breakdown of conditions across several counties:
- Central and Eastern Highlands (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi):
