President Ruto to Deliver State of the Nation Address Next Week

President William Ruto is set to deliver the much-anticipated State of the Nation Address before a joint sitting of Parliament next week. The announcement was made official through a joint notice issued by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

According to the notice, the special sitting will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi. The session has been convened following a formal communication from President Ruto confirming his readiness to address both Houses.

“Following a notification by His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, PhD., C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Senate have convened a special sitting of Parliament to be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, commencing at 2:30 p.m. for purposes of the President’s address,” the joint notice stated.

The two Speakers further explained that the sitting complies with Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate, both of which require them to inform Members of Parliament of the venue, date, and time of such a special sitting as outlined under Article 132(1)(b) of the Constitution.

Under Article 132(1)(b), the President is constitutionally required to address a special sitting of Parliament at least once every year.

This address serves as an opportunity for the Head of State to present to the nation the government’s progress, outline key policy priorities, and highlight plans for the coming year.

“Now, therefore, Members of Parliament and the general public are hereby notified that a Special Sitting of Parliament shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Building, Nairobi, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:30 p.m.,” the notice read in part.

The State of the Nation Address is one of the most significant annual events in Kenya’s political calendar.

It brings together Members of the National Assembly and the Senate in a joint session, where the President gives a detailed account of the government’s achievements, development agenda, and overall direction of national policy.

Traditionally, the session is marked by a ceremonial entry of the President into the chamber, preceded by the maces of both Houses—a symbol of legislative authority. Once the President concludes his speech, Parliament is adjourned to allow lawmakers time to review and debate the contents of the address in a subsequent sitting.

President Ruto last gave his State of the Nation Address on November 24, 2024, a politically charged session that came just two months after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

That address focused heavily on economic recovery, governance reforms, and unity efforts within his administration following a turbulent political season.

This year’s address is expected to cover critical national issues, including economic performance, job creation, security, healthcare, and education reforms.

Many Kenyans will also be keen to hear the President’s perspective on ongoing political debates, the state of the economy, and the progress of key development projects across the country.

As the nation looks forward to the speech, anticipation is building over the direction President Ruto will take in outlining the government’s achievements and setting the tone for Kenya’s political and economic priorities heading into 2026.
