Chaos as Goons Storm Church in Mbeere, Forcing Gachagua to End His Speech Abruptly
Drama unfolded today in Mbeere, Embu County, after a group of rowdy youths stormed a church service where Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was delivering a speech, forcing him to end his remarks abruptly and leave under tight security.
The unexpected tension erupted just minutes after Gachagua allegedly made remarks seen as an attack on Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, a senior government official from the region.
According to witnesses inside the church, the DP’s comments immediately triggered murmurs, visible discomfort, and a swift reaction from a section of youths who were seated outside the church compound.
The situation escalated rapidly when the group stormed into the church shouting, causing panic among worshippers. Some congregants rushed for the exits as Gachagua’s security officers moved quickly to form a protective ring around him.
The DP was immediately escorted out through a side door as officers attempted to disperse the rowdy youths who were pushing forward, demanding that he stop “disrespecting local leaders.”
Outside, more chaos erupted as the youths attempted to block Gachagua’s convoy from leaving. Security officers fired in the air to clear the way as the DP’s vehicles sped away from the scene.
Local sources say tension had been building in the area for days, with residents sharply divided over the ongoing political rivalry between Gachagua and CS Kindiki.
Leaders close to Kindiki had allegedly warned that Mbeere residents were unhappy with what they see as continuous political disrespect toward their son.
Church elders termed the invasion “shocking and unacceptable,” saying politics should never be allowed to disrupt a place of worship. They noted that the event was meant to unite the community, not create further division.
Gachagua left the venue without completing his speech, marking one of the rare moments he has been forced to cut short his address by an angry crowd.
The DP is yet to issue an official statement, though insiders say his team believes the incident was “planned and coordinated” to humiliate him in Kindiki’s backyard.
Residents have called on national leaders to de-escalate rising political hostility, especially within Mt. Kenya and Eastern Kenya regions, where tensions between rival camps have been steadily building.
More updates are expected as local authorities and political leaders weigh in on the dramatic scenes that unfolded today in Mbeere.
