Eric Omondi Hospitalised After Sustaining Injuries During Nairobi–Mombasa Charity Walk
Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has been rushed to hospital after suffering injuries just hours into his ambitious charity walk from Nairobi to Mombasa, a journey covering more than 480 kilometres.
The walk, which is part of a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting vulnerable communities, began with high energy but quickly turned challenging after the first day.
Omondi revealed that he developed injuries in the ligaments of his left leg and hip after completing over 68 kilometres on the opening day of the journey.
The comedian had set off from Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday, February 10, with the first stretch taking him from Nairobi towards Machakos.
The long distance covered within a short time is believed to have contributed to the injuries, forcing him to seek medical attention.
Despite the physical setback, Eric Omondi maintained that he remains determined to complete the journey. Speaking while receiving treatment, he said the injuries would not stop him from pursuing the mission behind the walk.
He expressed strong resolve, stating that he was prepared to continue the journey even if it meant moving forward slowly or enduring discomfort, emphasizing that the goal of reaching Mombasa remains unchanged.
According to the comedian, the injury may have been caused by the excitement and adrenaline that came with the start of the challenge.
He explained that the enthusiasm of launching the walk possibly pushed his body beyond its limits on the first day, leading to strain on his muscles and ligaments.
The 486-kilometre journey, which has been named the “Walk of Love,” is scheduled to last five days and is expected to end on Saturday, February 14, at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa.
The initiative is not only a physical challenge but also a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the construction of the Sisi kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre.
The planned facility will include a warehouse for supplies, two ambulances, a medical clinic, and a free secondary school intended to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Eric Omondi first launched the Sisi kwa Sisi initiative in 2024, and since then, the project has gained national attention for its community-driven support programs.
Through public contributions and fundraising efforts, the initiative has assisted many vulnerable families across the country.
Reports indicate that more than KSh 70 million has already been raised for various community projects, including recent contributions exceeding KSh 6 million that were used to support a bedridden mother in Githurai.
The comedian has described the walk as a symbolic step towards turning the initiative into a larger movement that can bring long-term change to many lives.
He believes that continued public participation will help transform the project into a sustainable support system for those in need.
As part of the fundraising effort, Omondi has also encouraged members of the public to participate by “buying a kilometre.”
He explained that each kilometre costs KSh 15,000, and anyone who contributes that amount effectively covers that portion of the journey, reducing the distance he has to walk while still helping the cause move forward.
According to him, the most important goal is not the walk itself but ensuring that the mission reaches its destination and achieves its intended impact.
Even as he recovers from his injuries, supporters continue to follow the journey closely, with many hoping that the Walk of Love will successfully raise enough funds to bring the Sisi kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre closer to reality and expand the initiative’s humanitarian work across Kenya.
