Less than a year before Kenya heads into the 2027 General Election, several prominent leaders have been recognised among the country’s best-performing public officials in the latest leadership rankings released by Politrack Africa.
Among those who stood out in the latest STARLEADERS Awards 2026 were Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The ranking placed them among the most effective leaders in their respective categories, highlighting their visibility and performance in public service.
The awards ceremony, which was held at a top hotel in Nairobi, attracted a high-profile audience that included governors, cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, members of parliament, and other senior government officials.
The event focused on recognising leaders who have demonstrated strong performance in service delivery, strategic leadership, innovation, accountability, and integrity in public office.
In the Cabinet Secretaries category, Treasury CS John Mbadi shared the top position with Geoffrey Ruku after both leaders posted impressive performance ratings. Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen came in second place, while Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi secured third position.
Their recognition reflects growing public attention on ministry performance and delivery of government promises as the country moves closer to the next election cycle.
In the Principal Secretaries category, Interior PS Raymond Omollo emerged as the best-performing PS, a recognition that further boosts his growing profile in government administration. Sports PS Elisha Mwangi followed in second place, while Energy PS Alex Wachira and Education PS Julius Bitok shared the third position.
The rankings in this category appeared to reward officials who have shown strong coordination, implementation of projects, and visible impact in their ministries.
For governors, Kisii Governor Simba Arati was ranked as the best-performing county boss in the country. His recognition placed him ahead of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who tied in second place.
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu shared third position, showing a highly competitive county leadership space shaped by development, infrastructure growth, and public engagement.
In the National Assembly rankings, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was named the best-performing Member of Parliament, continuing his strong showing in national leadership surveys.
He was followed by Patrick Makau in second place, while outspoken Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro secured third position. The recognition reflects their strong legislative visibility, constituency engagement, and growing national political influence.
The Woman Representative category also saw notable recognition, with Rahab Mukami emerging as the top-ranked leader. She was followed by Beatrice Adagala in second place and Betty Maina in third, highlighting the growing role of women leaders in shaping governance and public accountability.
Speaking after receiving the award, Governor Simba Arati said the recognition was a result of his administration’s focus on improving service delivery, strengthening accountability, and ensuring residents receive real development benefits.
He maintained that his government remains committed to practical results and people-focused leadership.
On his part, Babu Owino described the award as a reflection of people-centred leadership, saying the recognition belongs to the people of Embakasi East whose continued trust, support, and expectations keep pushing him to deliver.
He said leadership should always be about service, progress, and responding directly to the needs of citizens.
According to Politrack Africa, the rankings were based on a broad evaluation system that examined key performance indicators such as core mandate delivery, strategic leadership, innovation, digital transformation, transparency, and integrity across different public offices.
The organisation said the goal is to encourage a performance culture where leaders are measured by visible results rather than political rhetoric alone.
Beyond the awards, Politrack Africa also used the platform to advocate for data-driven governance, urging leaders to adopt modern tools such as geo-mapping, live response tracking, and real-time citizen feedback systems.
The organisation argued that leaders who rely on credible data and measurable performance tools are better positioned to respond effectively to public needs and improve service delivery.
Politrack Africa CEO John Benson challenged leaders to embrace accountability and evidence-based decision-making, noting that the country is now roughly 16 months away from the 2027 General Election.
He stressed that performance, transparency, and responsiveness will likely become major factors shaping public opinion as the political season gradually gains momentum.
Overall, the 2026 STARLEADERS rankings have once again placed the spotlight on leadership performance in Kenya, with citizens increasingly paying attention to leaders who can demonstrate tangible development, accountability, and real impact on the ground rather than relying only on political messaging.
