Omanga Kicked Out of Govt as Ruto, CSs Make New Appointments

Omanga Removed From Government Board as Ruto’s Administration Announces Fresh Appointments

Nairobi Woman Representative Millicent Omanga has officially been removed from government after losing her position as a board member at Kenya Shipyards Limited during the latest round of state appointments and changes announced by President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries.

According to a gazette notice released on Thursday, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya revoked Omanga’s appointment to the board, bringing her tenure at the state corporation to an end effective April 30, 2026.

In the notice, Tuya stated that the decision had been made under powers granted through the State Corporations Act and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.

The move immediately removed Omanga from the leadership structure of the government-owned shipbuilding company.

Omanga’s exit from the board comes at a politically sensitive time, months after she publicly declared support for the opposition-linked Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party, a political movement associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Her support for the outfit had sparked political debate, especially given her previous close ties with President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The latest government changes also saw President Ruto make several reappointments in different state agencies and commissions.

Among those reappointed were members of the Advocates Complaints Commission, including Moses Cheboi, Peter Ereri Nyaga, and Mueni Kalola. The three will continue serving for another term of three years.

At the same time, Ruto renewed the appointment of Ngeny Biwott as the chairperson of the Kenya National Accreditation Service Board for another three-year period. The board plays a major role in maintaining standards and accreditation systems across different sectors in the country.

In the Interior Ministry, Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen officially gazetted the appointment of former Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Benjamin Kitiyo as the Principal Registrar of the National Registration Bureau.

Although Kitiyo had already been appointed to the role in February, the government had delayed publishing the official gazette notice confirming the changes. His appointment also confirmed the revocation of Christopher Wanjau’s position at the bureau.

Elsewhere, East African Community Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul reappointed Dr. Nkaesha Naikuni to continue serving as a board member of the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority for another three-year term.

Askul also appointed William Larus as a new member of the board, expanding the leadership team tasked with overseeing development projects and water resource management within the Ewaso Ng’iro South basin region.

In the Judiciary, Chief Justice Martha Koome reappointed Carolyne Mboku as the chairperson of the HIV and AIDS Tribunal. Several other tribunal members also retained their positions and are expected to serve for another three years.

At the same time, Koome announced fresh appointments to the Public Benefit Organizations Disputes Tribunal, naming Anne Nderu as the new chairperson alongside four additional members selected to serve in the tribunal.

The latest appointments and removals reflect ongoing adjustments within President Ruto’s administration as the government continues restructuring leadership positions across various state institutions and agencies.
