Two Maasai Men Reject KSh 1,000 Offer to Ditch Gachagua for Ruto
A video circulating widely on social media has sparked political debate in Kenya after two Maasai men reportedly rejected a cash offer meant to persuade them to abandon support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and support President William Ruto instead.
According to clips shared online, an unidentified man approached the two men and allegedly offered them KSh 1,000 each if they agreed to shift their political allegiance from Gachagua to President Ruto.
However, the pair firmly rejected the money, insisting that their political stand could not be bought.
In one of the viral videos shared on X and other social platforms, the men are heard saying that they had not seen enough benefits from the current administration to justify changing their loyalty.
Their response has attracted strong reactions online, with many Kenyans praising them for standing by their beliefs despite the financial offer.
The incident comes at a time when Kenyan politics remains highly charged following the fallout between President Ruto and Gachagua.
Since his impeachment and removal from office, Gachagua has continued to maintain influence in parts of the country and has increasingly positioned himself as a critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Social media users have interpreted the Maasai men’s response as a sign of growing political awareness among ordinary citizens, arguing that voters are becoming less willing to accept small handouts in exchange for political support.
Others, however, questioned the authenticity and context of the viral clip, noting that the full circumstances surrounding the recording remain unclear.
The video has continued to trend across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and X, with many users debating whether the moment reflects shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
