Drama as Edwin Sifuna, Didmus Barasa Clash Politically at Bungoma Funeral
A funeral ceremony in Bungoma County turned into a political showdown after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa exchanged sharp political attacks before mourners.
The event, attended by several political leaders allied to President William Ruto and opposition figures, was briefly disrupted as rival supporters reacted to the leaders’ speeches.
Reports indicate that tensions escalated after Barasa’s address was interrupted, prompting him to leave the venue alongside a section of his supporters before Sifuna took to the podium.
While addressing mourners, Sifuna dismissed the walkout and accused Barasa of practicing what he described as money-driven politics.
The Nairobi Senator claimed that his political rival had a habit of mobilising supporters to stage walkouts and influence public perception during political gatherings.
Sifuna further criticised leaders aligned with President Ruto, arguing that Kenya needed a different political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. His remarks attracted cheers from sections of the crowd while drawing criticism from Barasa’s supporters.
Earlier, Barasa had defended his style of politics, insisting that assisting residents financially should not be viewed negatively. He also challenged Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, accusing them of seeking political mileage instead of offering practical solutions to wananchi.
The exchange highlighted the growing rivalry between the two leaders as political realignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the next elections.
