Drama as Governor is Heckled in Front of Ruto

Drama as Governor Ole Lenku Is Heckled During Ruto Rally

Drama unfolded in Kajiado County after a section of residents openly heckled Governor Joseph Ole Lenku while he was addressing a public rally attended by President William Ruto in Loitokitok.

The governor had only spoken for a short time when some residents began shouting and calling on him to stop speaking. The interruptions grew louder as he continued with his remarks, forcing Ole Lenku to briefly pause his speech.

The situation eventually attracted the attention of President William Ruto, who intervened and appealed to the crowd to give the governor an opportunity to finish addressing them.

“Please, please, just let the governor finish his speech, just give him a moment,” Ruto told the residents as the heckling continued.

Ole Lenku had started his speech by praising the President’s development projects in Kajiado County and expressing support for the government’s agenda.

“Your Excellency the President, today, we as the Kajiado residents are happy because of the development you have brought. Your development agenda, we support it so that Kenya can move forward,” the governor said.

However, his remarks were repeatedly interrupted by sections of the crowd, with some residents waving their hands and loudly demanding that he end his speech.

Despite the disruption, Ole Lenku appeared determined to continue speaking and insisted that the heckling would not intimidate him or change his position.

“The noise of 20 people does not scare us. This Kajiado is ours, and we are the ones to decide Kajiado’s political direction, and we have decided to back you,” he said.

As the situation became increasingly tense, President Ruto took the microphone and appealed directly to the crowd to allow the governor to complete his address.

The President’s intervention temporarily calmed the situation and allowed the rally to continue, although the incident attracted significant attention and briefly shifted the focus away from Ruto’s development agenda.

The heckling comes as President Ruto tours Kajiado County as part of his efforts to promote his administration’s development programmes and engage directly with residents on government projects and other issues affecting the region.

During his visit to Loitokitok, the President inspected the ongoing construction of the Ksh2.2 billion Loitokitok Affordable Housing Project. The project is part of the government’s wider affordable housing programme aimed at increasing access to decent and affordable homes for Kenyans.

Ruto also laid the foundation stone for the construction of student hostels at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Loitokitok. The hostels are expected to cost approximately Ksh220 million and will serve students at the institution in Kajiado South Constituency.

The latest incident involving Ole Lenku comes at a politically sensitive time for the governor, who is already facing scrutiny over remarks he made publicly on August 22, 2026.

Following the remarks, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned the governor to appear before the commission over allegations of ethnic incitement and hate speech.

Ole Lenku has been directed to appear in person before the NCIC on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 2pm to respond to the allegations being investigated.

According to the allegations under investigation, the governor reportedly argued that political parties should reserve leadership positions in Kajiado and Narok counties exclusively for candidates from the Maasai community.

The remarks have sparked concern because of the potential impact of ethnic-based political statements in regions where communities from different backgrounds live and participate in politics.

The latest heckling incident at the Loitokitok rally therefore adds another layer to the political pressure surrounding the governor, with his public appearance before the President attracting both support and open criticism from sections of the crowd.

The incident also highlights the increasingly heated political atmosphere in Kajiado as leaders position themselves ahead of the next general elections, while development, community interests and questions about political representation continue to dominate public debate.
