A police officer based in Mathioya, Murang’a County, suffered injuries after his mobile phone unexpectedly burst into flames while traveling to Kinangop, Nyandarua County, on Thursday morning.
According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital,
Police Constable Simon Chepkirwok was part of a group of four officers on official duty, heading from Mathioya to Kinangop at approximately 9:53 a.m.
The officers, including Chepkirwok, were en route when his phone, which was in his left front trouser pocket, suddenly exploded and caught fire, causing burns to his left thigh.

The injured officer was quickly rushed to Kenol Hospital, where medical personnel treated his injuries.
Thankfully, after receiving the necessary care, he was discharged a few hours later and reported to be in stable condition.
The incident was detailed in the police report, which stated, “It has been reported by Corporal John Anyimo, along with PC Simon Chepkirwok, PC Wilson Nyaga, and PC (d) Cornelius Kemboi, all from DCI Mathioya, that while traveling from Mathioya to Kinangop on official duty, the mobile phone, identified as a Techno BF1, owned by PC Simon Chepkirwok, ignited in flames while in his left front trouser pocket, causing burns to his left thigh.”
The phone in question has since been retrieved and will undergo further investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
