Hanifa Adan Lands New Radio Job as Host of The Generation Report
Prominent activist and journalist Hanifa Adan has secured a new media role after being unveiled as the newest host of The Generation Report, a weekly current affairs programme on Radio Generation.
The show airs every Monday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, where Hanifa will now be working alongside co-host Triciah Wayua.
In her new position, Hanifa is expected to bring her strong background in youth activism, governance issues, and political reporting to the airwaves.
Her role will involve delivering detailed news roundups, offering analysis on major political developments, and helping listeners understand the top stories shaping Kenya and the wider world.
Sharing the announcement with her followers, Hanifa expressed excitement about the opportunity and invited Kenyans to tune in.
“Some personal news. I’ve joined Radio Generation as a host for the 7 to 10pm segment every Monday. Join us on The Generation Report as we bring you fresh, unbiased news,” she said.
The programme is designed to focus on current affairs, governance, politics, and social trends, giving audiences expert commentary and a deeper breakdown of the headlines making news both locally and internationally.
With Hanifa’s growing reputation as a fearless voice among Kenya’s youth, many expect the show to attract strong interest, especially from younger listeners who closely follow politics and public policy.
Hanifa’s journalism background has played a major role in shaping her career. She studied journalism at the University of Nairobi, where she built the communication and reporting skills that later strengthened her public advocacy work.
Since April 2025, she has also been serving as a columnist for the Daily Nation, where she regularly writes on issues touching on governance, social justice, public accountability, and youth activism.
Her writing style has earned her recognition for clearly addressing matters that directly affect ordinary Kenyans, especially young people who are increasingly involved in national conversations.
Hanifa first gained nationwide attention during the Gen Z-led anti-Finance Bill protests, where she emerged as one of the most visible youth voices.
During the demonstrations, she actively participated in protests while also using her social media platforms to call for government accountability, policy transparency, and protection of constitutional rights.
Her influence during that period helped position her as one of the leading faces of youth-led civic action in Kenya.
In recent months, Hanifa has also been linked to broader political mobilisation efforts. She has been involved in movements associated with Okiyah Omtatah’s political team, which earlier this year announced plans for a presidential bid.
Her involvement in such spaces has further strengthened her image as both an activist and a serious political commentator.
At one point, Hanifa had also considered vying for the position of Nairobi Woman Representative. However, she later stepped back from the idea, explaining that she lacked enough campaign resources and felt she needed more political experience before making such a move.
Her honesty about the realities of politics was widely seen as a mature and thoughtful decision, especially among young supporters who had encouraged her to run.
Her impact in the activism space has continued to receive formal recognition. In 2024, Hanifa was honoured as Human Rights Defender of the Year, an award that further cemented her place among Kenya’s most influential youth activists and human rights voices.
That recognition reflected years of consistent work in advocating for justice, equality, and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Hanifa’s activism journey began attracting public attention in 2022, when she boldly highlighted the longstanding drainage crisis in Korogocho, the Nairobi informal settlement where she was born and raised. For decades, residents had struggled with poor drainage and flooding, but her efforts helped shine a national spotlight on the issue.
Her campaign eventually caught the attention of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, bringing renewed focus to the concerns of Korogocho residents and demonstrating the power of youth-led advocacy.
Since then, her activism has grown far beyond community issues. She has been actively involved in anti-abduction protests, campaigns against femicide, youth mobilisation drives, and wider social justice movements. Her voice has remained particularly strong on issues affecting women, vulnerable families, and marginalised communities.
Despite her popularity, Hanifa has not been free from public criticism and controversy. During the 2024 protests, some youth criticised her after she advised demonstrators against storming State House, arguing that the move could lead to unnecessary violence and loss of life.
She also faced allegations related to the reported mismanagement of Ksh30 million, funds that were said to be intended for supporting victims of the protests. However, Hanifa publicly clarified that she was not responsible for handling the money directly.
Instead, she explained that her role was limited to verifying individual cases and sharing supporting documentation to ensure genuine victims were identified.
Her clarification helped calm part of the public debate, although the issue remained widely discussed online.
Hanifa’s strong online presence continues to be one of her biggest tools in shaping public opinion.
Through social media, she has consistently engaged young people in conversations around policy, governance, leadership, justice, and accountability, making her one of the most influential digital activists in Kenya today.
As she steps into this new radio role, many listeners are expected to benefit from her unique ability to combine journalism, activism, and youth-centred political analysis.
Her move to Radio Generation is seen as a natural next step in her evolving career, giving her a larger platform to continue discussing the issues she has passionately championed for years.
With her deep understanding of public affairs and strong connection to Kenya’s youth, Hanifa is expected to bring fresh, insightful, and people-focused discussions to The Generation Report every Monday night.
