Sifuna Finally Breaks Silence After ODM Ouster, Vows to Defend His Position
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has finally broken his silence after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) announced changes to its top leadership that saw him removed from the position of Secretary-General.
The development has sparked intense debate within the party and across the country’s political landscape, with many Kenyans closely following the unfolding events.
Speaking after the announcement, Sifuna dismissed the decision to remove him, insisting that the process was not conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution. He argued that he was not given prior notice of the meeting or an opportunity to defend himself before the decision was made.
According to the senator, every political party is expected to follow its own rules and procedures when making major leadership changes.
Sifuna maintained that he remains committed to ODM and will use the available legal and internal party mechanisms to challenge the decision. He emphasized that leadership disputes should be resolved through due process rather than through what he described as irregular procedures.
His response came after widespread speculation over his political future and his relationship with the party leadership.
The senator also thanked his supporters for standing by him during the controversy. He urged them to remain calm, assuring them that he would continue serving the people who elected him regardless of the ongoing dispute.
Sifuna reiterated that his loyalty remains with the ideals of democracy, accountability, and the rule of law.
His removal follows months of visible differences between him and some senior ODM leaders over the party’s political direction.
Sifuna has consistently voiced opinions that at times appeared to differ from the party’s official position, particularly regarding ODM’s working relationship with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
His outspoken criticism on several national issues had led to speculation that tensions within the party were growing.
The leadership changes announced by ODM have generated mixed reactions. While some party members defended the decision as part of internal reorganization, others questioned whether the correct procedures had been followed.
Political observers believe the dispute reflects deeper divisions within the party as it navigates its future strategy and leadership structure.
The matter has also attracted legal attention after a challenge was filed before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
The tribunal issued temporary orders affecting the implementation of the leadership changes while the dispute is being considered, allowing the legal process to determine whether the party complied with its own constitution and the Political Parties Act.
Despite the setback, Sifuna has indicated that he is not stepping away from active politics. He insists that he will continue carrying out his duties as Nairobi Senator while pursuing all lawful avenues to defend his position within ODM.
As the dispute continues, many Kenyans will be watching closely to see whether the disagreement is resolved through the party’s internal mechanisms or through the courts. The outcome could have significant implications for ODM’s leadership, unity, and political direction ahead of future elections.
