President William Ruto said he will sign a deal with his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk Yeol to start exporting Kenya youths He announced his plans to complete bilateral agreements and secure funding for critical projects following his previous state visit to the Asian state He assured Kenyans that his visit to South Korea is aimed at enhancing the country’s prospects and not at leisure

Bungoma – President William Ruto is scheduled to depart the country tonight for South Korea, a week after his return from the United States.

In line with his commitment to prioritising official duties over leisure travel, Ruto emphasised that his trip is focused on work, not tourism, as he is mindful of public expectations whenever he travels abroad.

“After here, I will be flying out tonight to South Korea. I am not going for fun or as a tourist. I am going to work,” he said.

President Ruto’s upcoming itinerary includes participation in the Korea-Africa Summit, where he will join 48 other heads of state and government.

Why is Ruto travelling to South Korea?

During a church service in Kimilili, Bungoma county on Sunday, June 2, he disclosed plans to finalise bilateral agreements and secure funding for crucial projects following his previous state visit in 2022, at the invitation of President Yoon Suk Yeol during the Korea-Africa Summit.

“I was there and agreed with the President that we want to have a collaboration of our university in Athi River and one in South Korea and they have given us KSh 40 billion for young people in the creative economy. I will be going to receive those funds,” he stated.

The President reiterated his commitment to enhancing the nation’s prospects through multiple international trips. He assured unemployed youth of forthcoming job opportunities, citing an agreement signed with South Korea during his visit. According to him, Kenya will export between 5,000 to 10,000 workers to the Asian country.

“When we met with the South Korean president, we initiated plans to export our youth and now we are going to sign an agreement to that effect,” he revealed.
