In a chilling discovery that has left the Nyeri community in shock, police on Tuesday arrested Joseph Maina in the Classic area near Nyeri town, Nyeri County, after he was found carrying a human skull.

Maina’s arrest came after vigilant members of the public suspected him of attempting to steal from a residential premise on the outskirts of Nyeri town.

According to a police report, the public detained Maina, approximately 20 years old, and handed him over to the authorities. “Upon search on his assorted items, a human skull was found therein,” the police report stated.

The discovery of the skull led to an intense interrogation of Maina by the police. During the interrogation, Maina revealed more disturbing information.

He led the police to a Napier grass farm located about half a kilometre from the Nyeri police station. At the site, police conducted a thorough search and made a gruesome discovery.

“A search was conducted, and decomposing human body parts of an unknown African of unknown sex and age were recovered,” the report continued.

The recovered body parts were immediately taken to Nyeri mortuary for further identification and post-mortem examination.

Detectives have since launched a detailed investigation into the case to uncover the circumstances surrounding the macabre find.

The arrest and subsequent discoveries have raised numerous questions within the Nyeri community, with residents expressing both fear and curiosity about the unfolding events.

The police have assured the public that they are working diligently to piece together the mystery behind the human remains and to identify the deceased.

“We are committed to uncovering the truth behind this incident and bringing any responsible parties to justice,” a senior police officer involved in the investigation assured. He added that the cooperation of the public is crucial in such investigations and commended the community for their vigilance and swift action in alerting the authorities.

As the investigation continues, the Nyeri police are urging anyone with information that might aid in identifying the deceased or shedding light on the events leading to the recovery of the body parts to come forward.

The authorities have also heightened security in the area to prevent further incidents and reassure the residents of their safety.

This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in what could be a broader investigation into possible criminal activities involving human remains in the region.

The police remain tight-lipped about further details, emphasizing the need for a meticulous and thorough investigation.
