GSU Officer Guarding Foreign President’s Residence Shoots Police Officer in Nairobi
A police officer is recovering from injuries after he was shot by a General Service Unit (GSU) officer during a confrontation in Nairobi.
According to a police report, the injured officer, a police constable, was on patrol along Gigiri Road with a colleague when they spotted two individuals smoking bhang.
Upon questioning them, one of the suspects, who was later identified as a GSU officer, suddenly pulled out a pistol and shot the constable in the right hip.
It was later established that the shooter was a GSU officer assigned to guard the residence of a foreign President in Nairobi.
A report filed at Gigiri Police Station stated that the police constable and his colleague were patrolling the area when they noticed a man sitting under a shade near the perimeter wall of a residence, smoking bhang. When the officers approached him, he attempted to flee, ignoring their orders to stop.
“As the officers tried to stop him, the suspect responded by opening fire, injuring Police Constable Dennis Okenye in the right hip,” the report detailed.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found the armed GSU officer in possession of a loaded Ceska pistol. They quickly disarmed him while emergency responders rushed the injured constable to the hospital for medical attention.
Medical reports confirmed that the injured officer is in stable condition, though the bullet remains lodged in his hip.
Meanwhile, the GSU officer has been taken into custody at Gigiri Police Station, and his firearm has been seized for ballistic examination as investigations continue.
