Gathoni Wamuchomba Criticizes Rigathi Gachagua, Urges Him to Represent All Kenyans
Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has called on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to extend his advocacy beyond the Mount Kenya region and fight for the interests of all Kenyans.
Speaking in an interview with NTV on Monday, March 24, Wamuchomba, who has been a strong supporter of Gachagua, emphasized the need for him to be more inclusive and sensitive to the concerns of other communities.
She pointed out that if Gachagua wants to be seen as a true national leader, he must prove that his leadership is not just about Mount Kenya but about the entire country.
The outspoken MP revealed that she has had multiple discussions with Gachagua regarding this issue. However, she noted that while he may not always agree with her, the reality remains the same.
“He doesn’t have to agree with me, but the truth is the truth. Gachagua already has the support of the Mount Kenya region. He doesn’t need to keep emphasizing and campaigning with a focus solely on the mountain.
He has already fought enough for the mountain, and now it’s time for him to move beyond that,” Wamuchomba stated.
She acknowledged Gachagua’s dedication and strong advocacy for issues affecting Mount Kenya but insisted that his leadership must also reflect the needs of other marginalized and forgotten communities across the country.
“If he wants to be seen as a true national leader, then he must show that he is willing to fight for others. The same energy he has been using to push for the mountain’s issues should now be directed towards advocating for communities that have been evicted from their homes and those that continue to be ignored. Kenya is bigger than one region, and leadership should reflect that,” she added.
According to Wamuchomba, if Gachagua expands his advocacy beyond Mount Kenya, it will further strengthen his fight for lower taxes and other key issues that affect all Kenyans.
She believes that standing for the interests of every citizen will solidify his position as a national leader rather than a regional champion.
Her remarks come just weeks after she was among several MPs allied to Gachagua who were stripped of leadership positions in the National Assembly on March 5, 2025.
Wamuchomba was removed as chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee and reassigned to the Members’ Services Committee, a less influential role.
Other pro-Gachagua MPs who faced the same fate included Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo.
However, the most high-profile demotion was that of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who was dismissed from his position as chair of the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriations.
Unlike others, Nyoro has remained silent and has not openly declared whether he still supports Gachagua or not.
