President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are set to receive the biggest shares from this year’s Political Party Funding (PPF), according to a recent official announcement.
On June 5, 2025, the Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, released a gazette notice revealing that out of the total Ksh1.14 billion allocated for political parties this year, UDA will get Ksh480,290,411, making it the largest beneficiary.
The ODM follows with Ksh256,558,712, receiving the second-largest portion.
The Jubilee Party, which was the ruling party under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, will receive the third-largest amount from the fund, totaling Ksh112,530,209.
This funding plays a vital role in supporting the parties’ activities, such as grassroots mobilization and running political campaigns. The funds will be distributed quarterly by the National Treasury.
The notice further explained that due to budget cuts experienced in the Supplementary Estimates No. II for the financial year 2024/25, there was a need to revise the distribution of the Political Parties Fund to reflect the new budget constraints.
Other parties will also benefit from the fund as follows: Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement is set to receive Ksh60,101,143, while Eugene Wamalwa’s Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) will get Ksh26,333,970.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) will receive Ksh22,372,524, and the Forum for Restoration of Democracy (FORD-Kenya), led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, will get Ksh21,520,978.
Gideon Moi’s Kenya National African Union (KANU) will receive Ksh20,005,804. The Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) has been allocated Ksh11,467,211, and the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP) will receive Ksh10,546,046.
The Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) will get Ksh9,571,671, and the Service Party (TSP) will be given Ksh8,782,483. Meanwhile, the Movement for Democracy and Growth Party (MDG) is set to pocket Ksh8,157,856.
Other smaller parties will also receive funding: Kenya Union Party (KUP) will get Ksh7,909,603; United Party of Independence (UPIA) will receive Ksh7,587,411; and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will be allocated Ksh7,220,176.
Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP) is set to receive about Ksh6.3 million, while Chama cha Mashinani (CCM) will get Ksh6,753,489. The Tujibebe Wakenya Party (JIBEBE) will also receive Ksh6.3 million.
The Chama Cha Kazi (KAZI) party has been allocated Ksh5.4 million, Muungano Party (MP) will get Ksh5.61 million, and the United Democratic Party (UDP) will receive Ksh4.47 million.
The Kenya National Congress (KNC) will pocket Ksh1,541,673, and the Party of National Unity (PNU) will receive Ksh3,712,267. The Kenya Social Congress (KSC) will get Ksh1.01 million, while the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) is set to receive Ksh4.3 million.
Jimmy Wanjigi’s Safina Party is allocated Ksh2,612,379. The National Agenda Party of Kenya (NAP-K) will get Ksh1,861,403, and the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) has been assigned Ksh1,046,902 this year.
The Ubuntu People’s Forum (UPF) is expected to receive Ksh1,663,726, and the National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) will get Ksh2,829,816.
Smaller parties will also benefit from the funding: the Party of Independent Candidate (PICK) has been allocated Ksh731,617; Kenya African Democratic Union-Asili (KADU-ASILI) will get Ksh399,327; and the Communist Party of Kenya (CPK) will receive Ksh871,529.
The Shirikisho Party of Kenya (SPK) is allocated Ksh571,650; the People’s Trust Party (PTP) will get Ksh701,332; the Justice and Freedom Party of Kenya (JFP) is set to receive Ksh230,494; the Grand Dream Development Party (GDDP) will get Ksh388,337; the Mabadiliko Party of Kenya (MAPK) has been assigned Ksh531,042; and finally, the Green Thinking Action Party (GTAP) will receive Ksh484,831.
This detailed allocation ensures that political parties of all sizes have the financial support necessary to carry out their political duties and engage effectively with their members and supporters throughout the year.
