KCAA Announces Major Leadership Changes as Emile Arao Exits, Nicholas Bodo Takes Over in Acting Capacity

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (Kenya Civil Aviation Authority) has officially confirmed important leadership changes following the end of the tenure of its former Director General, Emile Arao.

The Authority has appointed Nicholas Bodomajor as the Acting Director General, effective immediately, to ensure continuity in operations as the organization prepares to recruit a permanent leader.

According to an official public notice released on April 23, the Authority stated that this transition comes after Emile Arao’s contract came to a natural end on April 22, 2026.

His departure marks the completion of a three-year term during which he served as the head of the aviation regulator.

Arao had been appointed in April 2022, taking over from Captain Gilbert Kibe, and has been credited by the Board for his period of service and contributions to the development of civil aviation in the country.

The Board of Directors of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority explained that the exit was not due to any dispute or sudden resignation, but rather the normal conclusion of his employment contract.

They noted that Arao completed his tenure as scheduled, describing his leadership period as one that delivered “meaningful contribution” to the aviation sector in Kenya.

With his departure, the Authority has moved quickly to ensure there is no leadership gap. Nicholas Bodomajor, who currently serves as a Senior Deputy Director at the Ministry of Transport, has been appointed in an acting capacity.

His role is temporary, meaning he will oversee the Authority’s day-to-day operations while a formal recruitment process for a substantive Director General is carried out.

Nicholas Bodomajor is expected to provide stable leadership during this transition period. His immediate responsibility will be to maintain smooth operations within the Authority, ensuring that aviation services across the country continue without disruption.

The Board emphasized that continuity is critical, especially given the importance of the aviation sector in supporting both domestic and international travel, trade, and safety regulation.

The Board also confirmed that the appointment of a permanent Director General will be done through a transparent and competitive recruitment process.

This process will be carried out in consultation with the Authority’s parent ministry, ensuring that proper governance procedures are followed. The aim is to identify a qualified and experienced individual who can take over the leadership role on a long-term basis.

During this transition period, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority reassured the public and all aviation stakeholders that its operations remain fully active and stable.

The Authority stressed that there will be no interruption in services, and all regulatory and safety functions will continue as normal.

Overall, the leadership changes mark a routine but significant transition within one of Kenya’s key transport regulatory bodies.

While Emile Arao concludes his official service, the Authority is now focused on ensuring stability under interim leadership and preparing for the appointment of a new permanent Director General to guide the future of Kenya’s civil aviation sector.
