The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that, although a large part of the country will continue to experience hot, sunny, and dry weather, several regions should prepare for rainfall over the next five days.
The latest forecast shows that a number of counties, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Mombasa, and Machakos, may receive scattered showers from now until Tuesday, December 2.
According to the weatherman, residents in counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi should expect bright and sunny intervals every morning from Saturday through Tuesday.
However, despite the pleasant mornings, these same counties are likely to receive afternoon showers during the five-day period. Nights in these areas are expected to remain cloudy, with temperatures ranging from a chilly minimum of 5°C to highs of up to 27°C.
In the eastern region, counties including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta — together with the inland parts of Tana River County — are forecast to experience showers throughout most of the day for the better part of the week. The only exception will be Monday afternoon, which is expected to be sunny.
The forecast also shows that these counties will experience showers on Friday and Sunday nights, while the other nights are likely to remain cloudy. Temperatures in this zone could climb to a maximum of 34°C, with the lowest expected temperature being around 13°C.
Along the Coast, residents in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River County should prepare for sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers throughout the forecast period. The nights in these coastal counties will remain cloudy. The region’s temperatures are expected to reach highs of about 33°C and drop to lows of 24°C.
In the western and Rift Valley regions — including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot — residents should expect sunny intervals stretching through Tuesday.
Monday and Tuesday are expected to have uninterrupted sunshine throughout the day. However, afternoon showers may still occur on Saturday and Sunday. Most nights will be partly cloudy. Temperatures in these areas will reach up to 32°C during the day, while the coolest temperatures will be around 7°C.
In the northern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the weather will mainly consist of long hours of sunshine and cloudy daytime conditions over the next four days.
The temperatures here will be some of the highest in the country, with maximums expected to rise to 37°C and minimums dropping to around 17°C.
A similar weather pattern is expected in Turkana and Samburu counties until Tuesday. These regions will also experience sunny days with occasional cloud cover. According to the Kenya Met Department, the maximum temperature in these counties will be around 37°C, while the nights could get as cool as 8°C.
The Kenya Meteorological Department continues to advise residents across the country to stay updated with daily forecasts, especially those in areas expecting afternoon showers, in order to plan their activities and stay safe during the changing weather conditions.
