Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has confidently declared a major political partnership with Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party.
According to Gachagua, this new alliance is built with one clear mission — to take over all key leadership seats in Nairobi during the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Sunday, November 30, during a Thanksgiving ceremony for the newly elected Kariobangi North MCA, Gachagua outlined a bold and detailed plan for Nairobi politics.
He insisted that the DCP is determined to capture the Governor, Senator, and Woman Representative positions, working closely with Wiper to strengthen their influence in the capital.
He explained that the agreement between DCP and Wiper is already well-structured.
According to him, out of Nairobi’s 17 constituencies, DCP is set to claim 16, while out of the 85 wards, the two parties together are targeting 75 seats.
He said this coordinated strategy is designed to solidify their presence and give the two parties complete control of Nairobi’s political direction.
Gachagua’s statements come at a time when divisions have been reported within the United Opposition coalition.
Some leaders have been accused of secretly planning alliances without informing the rest of the coalition’s leadership, causing internal tension.
The former DP also spoke about voting patterns in the 2022 elections. He argued that President William Ruto’s votes in Nairobi at the time were not necessarily from UDA supporters but from his personal supporters.
He stressed,
“Those who voted for Ruto in Nairobi were not UDA supporters. They were Riggy G supporters, and when I left, they left with me.”
Gachagua further highlighted his party’s performance in the recent by-elections across the country.
He clarified that critics were only focusing on areas where DCP did not field a candidate, especially Mbeere North, yet ignoring the party’s success in other regions. He pointed out that DCP won three out of the five seats where it presented candidates.
He stated that he only visited Mbeere North to assist the Democratic Party (DP), not because DCP was competing there. He emphasized that the wins recorded by his party should be recognized instead of dwelling on areas where they were not involved.
Gachagua also commended the newly elected Kariobangi North MCA, saying the leader’s performance in office will determine whether he should be supported for re-election in 2027. He urged the MCA to prioritize service delivery and ensure residents see real development and accountability.
During his speech, Gachagua accused certain government agencies of using intimidation tactics to scare his supporters.
He mentioned incidents where alleged goons were sent to disrupt his activities and intimidate voters. He referred to a situation in Narok where police confronted him as he campaigned for a DCP candidate in the Narok Town Ward by-election.
He questioned why force was being used to influence political outcomes, insisting that intimidation cannot change the will of the people.
“Why send goons to attack me, my community, or my supporters? You cannot force people to vote for you,” he said.
Overall, Gachagua’s remarks painted a picture of a leader preparing aggressively for 2027, building alliances, defending his political base, and warning against interference as he positions DCP and Wiper as major players in Nairobi politics.
