Youth Leader Behind ‘Niko Kadi’ Movement Warns Politicians to Stay Away
Allan Ademba, the youth leader who started the fast-growing “Niko Kadi” movement, has issued a strong warning to politicians, asking them not to interfere with the campaign.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, March 22, Ademba made it clear that the initiative is entirely driven by ordinary citizens and should remain free from political influence.
Ademba, who has quickly become a vocal figure among young people, emphasized that the movement is not open to collaboration with political leaders.
According to him, politicians had many opportunities in the past to encourage young people to register as voters but failed to do so.
He now believes that the current momentum should be left in the hands of the youth, without any attempts by leaders to take credit or control the process.
He stated firmly that the campaign is focused on one goal—getting more Kenyans, especially young people, to register as voters. He urged politicians to step aside and allow the process to continue without disruption.
In his view, leaders should wait until election time, when voters will decide whether to support them or not, instead of trying to insert themselves into a citizen-led initiative.
The “Niko Kadi” campaign represents a major shift among Kenyan youth, moving from online discussions and activism to taking real action in the electoral process.
The movement is working toward an ambitious target of registering more than one million young voters before the end of March.
This goal reflects a growing awareness among young people about the importance of participating in elections and shaping the country’s future.
Ademba launched the campaign in mid-March after concerns were raised about low voter registration among young people.
Through social media, he began encouraging the youth to take the simple but important step of registering. The response was immediate and impressive.
On its very first day, the movement managed to record 641 new voter registrations, and the numbers have continued to grow steadily since then.
As the campaign gained popularity, the phrase “Niko Kadi” quickly spread across social media platforms. It has been widely shared and adopted by many Kenyans, including politicians from different political sides who began using it to mobilise their supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, Ademba has expressed concern about this trend, warning that it risks diluting the original purpose of the movement.
Even William Ruto has publicly used the slogan during political events. Ademba criticized this move, describing it as “intellectual theft.”
He argued that the phrase was created as part of a grassroots effort and should not be appropriated by political leaders for their own agendas.
In addition, Ademba revealed that he has already turned down several offers from politicians who wanted to support the campaign financially or logistically. One such offer included providing him with a fully branded lorry to help with mobilisation.
However, he declined, explaining that accepting such support could trigger negative reactions from supporters who are determined to keep the movement independent and free from political control.
When it comes to funding, Ademba insists that the campaign does not rely on politicians or external sponsors. Instead, it is powered by the goodwill of ordinary Kenyans and the organic reach of social media.
He shared that the campaign started in a very simple way, revealing that he spent only KSh 1,000 to design a poster that later went viral and sparked nationwide attention.
Despite his firm stance against political interference, Ademba admitted that he would not completely rule out being paid to promote voter registration. He explained that if someone were willing to pay him to encourage young people to register, he would consider accepting the offer. However, he maintained that the core mission of the movement—to empower citizens and increase voter participation—must remain intact.
Overall, the “Niko Kadi” movement continues to gain momentum as a powerful example of youth-driven change in Kenya.
It highlights how young people are stepping up to take responsibility for their future, while also sending a clear message that they want their voices to be heard without political manipulation.
