President William Ruto has urged opposition leaders to stop using young people for political gain and instead present them with meaningful and practical solutions to the challenges they face. He emphasized that youth should be guided with opportunities, not incited into violence.
Speaking on Thursday afternoon while hosting players from Nairobi United Football Club at State House, the President called on the opposition to move away from political rhetoric and instead focus on constructive plans to uplift the youth.
“Let my plan to create employment for our youth be put side-by-side with that of my political opponents. Let Kenyans judge for themselves which is more effective,” Ruto stated.
He described the youth as Kenya’s most valuable resource and assured that his administration is fully committed to supporting them, despite the country’s ongoing economic and social challenges.
In his speech, the Head of State criticized opposition figures, specifically naming former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other key political opponents. He accused them of engaging in hollow slogans rather than addressing the country’s real problems.
“Some leaders are busy with loud statements but offer no real solutions. They’re not serious about solving the issues affecting the people,” he added.
Touching on the recent wave of nationwide protests, President Ruto reaffirmed his responsibility to protect both lives and property. He said the Constitution gives him the authority and obligation to ensure safety and lawfulness across the country.
“As the President, I am the guardian of the Constitution. It is my duty to ensure that its laws are followed without exception,” he stated firmly.
During the same event, Ruto condemned the vandalism at Talanta Stadium—currently under construction—blaming it on what he called paid goons mobilized by political actors. He warned that acts of sabotage against national development projects would not be tolerated.
Additionally, the President highlighted the ongoing government projects aimed at making Nairobi a cleaner, safer, and more efficient city for its residents and visitors.
He pointed out that the restoration of the heavily polluted Nairobi River was progressing steadily and is expected to be completed in the next two years. According to Ruto, this initiative is crucial to transforming the city into a more environmentally friendly capital.
He also mentioned plans for better waste management and road improvements, which will be carried out through a partnership between the national government and the Nairobi County administration.
“As the host city of the United Nations Environment Programme, Nairobi must be a shining example of cleanliness and urban sustainability,” the President noted.
President Ruto’s remarks come at a time of heightened political tension and youth-led demonstrations across the country. His message was clear: Kenya’s youth need jobs, mentorship, and support—not incitement, division, or empty promises.
