In what has been termed by many as the photo of the year, an elderly man and his son were pictured crying at the KDF pass-out ceremony in Eldoret

Overwhelmed with emotions, the duo let tears flow as they basked in the moment that they had waited for a long time

The tears told the emotional story of two people who had endured untold hardship to see the military dream finally come true

On Wednesday, May 15, President William Ruto presided over the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) graduates pass-out parade at Moi Barracks in Eldoret.

One of the most memorable moments from the ceremony was a touching display of paternal pride captured by one of the graduates and his father.

Photo of the year?

The viral photo captured an elderly father and his son emotionally shedding as the latter graduated.

It was evident that the father was overwhelmed with emotion as he witnessed his son transition into a soldier.

The tears told a silent story of a pair who had endured untold struggle, expressing joy, pride, and relief at the son’s accomplishment. It was more than just an image; it was a testament to the love and pride the elderly father held for his child.

Social media reactions

Kenyans shared the photo extensively, with many expressing admiration for the father’s show of emotion and the son’s dedication to service.

Winnie Blessings: “They only understand the journey they’ve walked through together in struggles, mockery, disappointments, resilience and in the waiting.”

Technology Crowd Hub: “Tears of joy full of a father’s blessings. The Lord has made it come to pass.”

Jakinda De Gedionite: “This portrays signs of struggle. The son understood the feelings, for he has been there and seen the challenges.”

Edwin Cheboi: “Soldiers don’t cry, but he’s expressing that inner feelings and the positive struggles of his father.”

As the new KDF graduates await their subsequent posting, the image of the duo weeping will forever remain a powerful reminder of the personal stories behind the men and women in uniform.

As for the father and his son, the emotional moment will last a lifetime.
