Family Bank has announced the passing of its newly appointed Board Chair, Francis Gitau Mungai, just three weeks after he assumed the role.
The bank’s board and management shared that Mungai died while receiving medical treatment in the United States.
Francis Gitau Mungai, who joined the Family Bank Board in 2016, had been the Vice Chairman for the past two years before his recent elevation to Chairman.
During his tenure, he chaired the Board Credit Committee and the Board Human Resource Committee. Additionally, he was an active member of the Nominations and Governance Committee and served as a Director for Pesa Pap Digital, a subsidiary of Family Bank Ltd.
Mungai’s connection to the bank dates back to 1996, when he first supported the board both as a customer and an architect. His contributions over the years have been instrumental in the bank’s growth and development, earning him deep respect and admiration from colleagues and associates alike.
A seasoned architect and contract manager, Mungai brought over 30 years of professional experience to his roles. He was a founding partner at Aaki Consultants, Architects, and Urban Designers and had held prominent positions at Triad Architects in Nairobi and Urban Innovation Group in Los Angeles.
Mungai held a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a Bachelor of Architecture degree with First-Class Honours from the University of Nairobi.
He was a Fellow of the Architectural Association of Kenya (FAAK) and was certified by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya.
While the bank grieves his loss, it is dedicated to preserving Mungai’s legacy and continuing the course he set for future achievements.
His impact on Family Bank and the architecture profession has created a lasting legacy that will be honored and celebrated for many years ahead.
