Government Announces Ksh2,000 Cash Transfer for Over 1.7 Million Vulnerable Kenyans
The Kenyan government has released Ksh3.51 billion for the May installment of the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme, aiming to provide essential financial support to some of the country’s most vulnerable citizens.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on June 7, the funds will benefit a total of 1,759,656 people across the country. These include elderly persons aged 70 and above, orphans, vulnerable children, and individuals with severe disabilities.
The announcement was made by Principal Secretary Joseph Motari, who noted that the government understands the difficult financial challenges many Kenyans are currently facing.
He confirmed that each beneficiary will receive Ksh2,000 for the month of May, and the payments started on Friday, June 6.
“The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, has disbursed Ksh3,519,312,000 to support beneficiaries enrolled under the Inua Jamii programme,” Motari stated.
Motari emphasized that the Inua Jamii programme remains a vital part of Kenya’s national plan to reduce poverty and promote equality. He described it as a pillar of social protection efforts, providing financial relief to the country’s most at-risk populations.
“This programme is designed to help lift the burden off vulnerable citizens and improve their quality of life. It directly targets older persons, children who have lost parental care, and individuals suffering from severe disabilities,” he added.
Beneficiaries can easily access their funds by using the E-citizen platform or by dialing *USSD code 222# on their mobile phones. Once confirmed, they can either withdraw the money from M-PESA agents or transfer it directly to their M-PESA wallets for personal use.
The Ministry has also advised beneficiaries to report any difficulties they experience during the withdrawal or access process to the nearest social protection offices to ensure a smooth and transparent experience for everyone involved.
This latest release of funds follows a similar disbursement of Ksh3.5 billion in April 2025, which was also aimed at supporting the same categories of vulnerable individuals.
Since its inception, the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme has become a cornerstone in the government’s efforts to promote inclusive development and fight poverty.
The programme has continuously provided regular financial support, helping thousands of elderly Kenyans and underprivileged families meet their basic needs, maintain their dignity, and live better lives.
