Goons Attack MP Majimbo Kalasinga’s Hotel Over MCA By-Elections Support
Tension has gripped Kabuchai after goons attacked and vandalised a hotel belonging to area MP Majimbo Kalasinga on Monday.
The attackers are said to have stolen goods worth millions of shillings and destroyed several valuable items during the raid.
Videos and photos seen by Newshub.co.ke show the extent of the destruction — shattered glass doors and windows, broken chairs, damaged pool tables, and scattered debris inside the hotel. The scene painted a picture of chaos and targeted aggression.
According to reports, the attack was allegedly sparked by the MP’s open support for Eric Wekesa, one of the candidates vying for the Kabuchai-Chwele Ward MCA seat in the forthcoming by-elections.
Reacting to the incident, MP Kalasinga took to social media to condemn the violence and destruction, stating that his political stance should not justify attacks on his private business.
He urged locals to maintain peace and respect the memory of the late MCA James Barasa, in whose honour the by-election is being held.
“I strongly condemn the violence happening in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward. How does an MCA by-election have anything to do with my personal property?” Kalasinga wrote. “Let us conduct peaceful campaigns and respect one another.
The late Hon. James Barasa was a peaceful man who never encouraged violence. I completely rebuke such acts of hooliganism.”
Speaking from South Africa, where he is currently on an official visit, the legislator said the raid would not intimidate him but instead strengthen his determination to stand by Wekesa in the upcoming election.
Hotel employees who witnessed the chaos narrated the terrifying ordeal, explaining that the attack caught them off guard. Fortunately, no staff member suffered serious injuries, although a young boy passing by the area was reportedly hurt as the attackers fled.
According to the workers, the goons easily accessed the premises because there were no police officers in the vicinity at the time — including the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) — since most security personnel were away supervising the ongoing KCSE exams.
“They stormed into the kitchen, unplugged appliances, carried away food, broke glass windows, and stole several items like TVs and chairs. The total loss is estimated at over Ksh1.8 million,” one of the employees recounted.
“They even assaulted some of our workers before escaping. Later, another group of thugs joined in and continued the looting. We urge the Chwele police to investigate and ensure justice is served,” the employee added.
Eric Wekesa, the candidate supported by Kalasinga, will be facing off against Ford Kenya’s Vincent Maunda in the November 27 by-elections.
Kabuchai-Chwele Ward is among the 16 wards expected to elect new MCAs in the upcoming polls. Meanwhile, Baringo residents will be voting for a new senator, and voters in six constituencies — including Malava, Kasipul, and Mbeere North — will also head to the ballot to elect new Members of Parliament.
The incident has heightened political tensions in the region, with calls for calm and fair campaigns as the by-elections draw closer. Many residents have urged the authorities to increase security and ensure such acts of violence are not repeated during the election period.
