Kenya Met Lists Counties Expected to Receive Rain Over the Next Five Days

The Kenya Meteorological Service has forecast light rainfall and continued cold weather in several parts of the country over the next five days, with some counties expected to experience showers at different times of the day.

The weather forecast covers the period from Sunday, September 6, to Thursday, September 10, according to the five-day forecast released by the meteorological service on Saturday, September 5.

The forecast shows that most parts of Kenya will generally experience sunny and dry weather during the period. However, residents in several counties should expect occasional light rainfall, mainly during the morning, afternoon or night, depending on the region.

Coastal Region

In the Coastal region, Mombasa and Kwale are expected to receive light showers on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. On Tuesday, the two counties are expected to experience sunny intervals, with no significant rainfall expected during the day.

Kilifi is also expected to receive some rainfall during the forecast period. The county is likely to experience light showers on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, with another possibility of rain on Thursday morning.

In Tana River, residents are likely to experience showers on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Lamu is forecast to receive light showers on Sunday and Thursday mornings. For Taita Taveta, weather conditions are expected to remain mainly sunny, although residents could experience light rainfall on Wednesday afternoon.

Northern Kenya

Some areas in northern Kenya are also expected to receive occasional rainfall.

Garissa is forecast to experience light showers during the afternoon on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. Residents in the county should therefore be prepared for brief periods of rain, particularly in the afternoon.

In Marsabit, weather conditions are expected to remain mainly sunny throughout much of the forecast period. However, the county could receive some rainfall on Thursday morning.

Central Kenya

Several counties in Central Kenya are also expected to record isolated rainfall during the five-day period.

Tharaka-Nithi is forecast to experience light showers on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Other counties likely to receive rainfall include Nyandarua, Embu, Kirinyaga and Nyeri. The meteorological service expects these areas to record light showers, particularly on Sunday afternoon and Tuesday.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain aware of changing weather conditions, especially when planning outdoor activities.

Rift Valley Region

Several counties in the Rift Valley are also expected to receive light rainfall next week.

West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Kericho, Bomet and Uasin Gishu are forecast to experience light showers on Tuesday afternoon.

The counties are expected to have sunny weather during the morning before the showers develop later in the afternoon.

The rainfall is expected to be generally light, although residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates as conditions can change during the day.

Western Kenya

In Western Kenya, Kakamega is expected to experience light showers on Tuesday afternoon and again on Thursday afternoon.

Bungoma and Busia are also likely to receive light showers on Sunday and Tuesday afternoons.

Most other areas in the region are expected to experience mainly sunny or partly cloudy conditions, with isolated rainfall possible in some locations.

Temperature Update

Apart from the rainfall forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Service has also warned of continued cold conditions in several parts of the country during the five-day period.

The cold weather is expected to be more noticeable in Central Kenya and other high-altitude areas, where night-time temperatures could drop significantly.

Nyandarua is expected to record some of the lowest night-time temperatures in the country. The county could experience temperatures of around 4°C on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.

The night-time temperatures in Nyandarua are expected to rise slightly to about 5°C on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Other counties are also expected to experience notably cold nights.

In Samburu, night-time temperatures could fall to about 8°C on Tuesday.

Trans Nzoia could record temperatures of around 7°C on Thursday night, making it one of the colder areas during the forecast period.

In Machakos, night-time temperatures are expected to range between 11°C and 13°C.

Narok could experience temperatures as low as 9°C on Sunday night, while Kajiado is expected to record night-time temperatures ranging from 10°C to 13°C.

Nairobi Weather

Residents of Nairobi should also expect relatively cold nights during the forecast period.

The capital city is expected to record a night-time temperature of around 11°C on Sunday. The temperature is forecast to rise gradually, reaching about 14°C on Tuesday, before falling again to approximately 12°C on Wednesday night.

The weather outlook suggests that residents in Nairobi and other affected areas should prepare for chilly mornings and evenings, particularly in areas that experience colder conditions.

Overall, the five-day forecast indicates that most parts of Kenya will remain generally sunny and dry, although several counties will experience periods of light rainfall.

The meteorological service continues to encourage members of the public to follow official weather updates, especially those living in areas expected to receive rain or experience significantly low temperatures.
