Renowned Kenyan radio personality Fyah Mummah Jahmby Koikai passes away after brave fight against endometriosis.

On Tuesday morning, loved ones confirmed her passing while she was under treatment at the Nairobi Hospital’s ICU.

Just three days before her passing, Koikai made a public appeal for blood donations, specifically requesting blood type O+ through her Instagram stories.

“Hi fam, I’m currently admitted at the Pioneer Ward, Nairobi Hospital, and I kindly need Blood O positive. Kindly asking for blood donors,” Koikai wrote.

On May 19, 2024, Koikai took to her social media platforms with a heartfelt plea directed at Kenyan leaders, including President William Ruto during his visit to the US, urging them to prioritize investments in healthcare facilities specializing in endometriosis treatment.

“This is a heartfelt plea directed towards a select group of Kenyan leaders, with President William Ruto being the first on my list, especially as he embarks on his official visit to the US. Mr. President, amidst the various themes of your trip, I implore you to prioritize investment in healthcare,” she wrote.

“Atlanta, Georgia holds a special place in the hearts of every young girl and woman who has faced the challenges of Endometriosis. Within its borders stands a beacon of hope—a center committed to restoring the lives of those affected by this debilitating disease.”

In her last message, Koikai issued a compelling call to action, shedding light on the silent struggles of millions of Kenyan women battling Endometriosis, urging President Ruto to prioritize visits to specialized healthcare facilities in the US for endometriosis treatment during his trip.

Detailing her personal battle, Koikai shared the harrowing effects of Endometriosis, recounting monthly lung collapses due to displaced endometrial tissue, and the extensive surgeries required. She underscored the 17-year journey to diagnosis and the scarcity of treatment options accessible in Kenya.

Courageously, Koikai disclosed the extensive impact of the disease on her body, disclosing its spread to unexpected areas like her teeth, heart, appendix, and spine. Additionally, she addressed the profound effects of endometriosis and adenomyosis on fertility, shedding light on the broader challenges faced by women battling these conditions.

The passing of Koikai has reverberated across Kenya, sending shockwaves through the nation. Social media platforms have become a space for many to express their sorrow and honor the memory of the beloved radio personality.
