Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will chair the meeting, focusing on critical issues affecting the global community.

President William Ruto has arrived in Brindisi, Puglia, southern Italy, to attend the prestigious G7 Summit.

President Ruto is one of five African leaders invited to the summit, highlighting the growing recognition of Africa’s role in global economic and environmental discussions.

He is scheduled to address the summit later today, where he will advocate for greater inclusion of African perspectives in tackling pressing global issues.

The G7 Summit, a key annual meeting that brings together leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, focuses on critical topics such as international cooperation, climate change, and economic stability.

This year’s summit has attracted a diverse group of leaders from across the globe, emphasizing the importance of collaborative solutions to shared challenges.

Joining President Ruto are other African heads of state, including the presidents of Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia.

Among the high-profile attendees are U.S. President Joe Biden, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed, who also chairs the African Union. The summit also sees the participation of leaders from Brazil, Argentina, Jordan, and India, including President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Javier Milei of Argentina, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

International organizations are well represented, with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina, World Bank President Ajay Banga, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann in attendance.

The G7 countries, known for their shared values of political pluralism, liberal democracy, and representative government, are keen to discuss and implement strategies that promote global stability and prosperity.

In his address to the summit, President Ruto is expected to emphasize the critical need for involving African countries in developing solutions to global challenges.

His speech will highlight issues such as climate change, peace, and security, including the ongoing conflicts that destabilize regions and hinder development.

President Ruto will also outline the recent reforms undertaken by the African Union aimed at enhancing trade and development, peace and stability, and greater global participation. These reforms are designed to create a more inclusive and equitable international system that recognizes the unique contributions and challenges of African nations.

A key point in President Ruto’s agenda at the summit will be his call for the reform of the international financial architecture. He has been a vocal advocate for changes in the governance of multilateral development banks to ensure fair representation and inclusivity.
