Kipyegon, the reigning Olympic champion in the 1,500m, showcased her versatility by conquering the longer distance. This marked her first attempt at the 5,000m this year, and she did not disappoint. Clocking a time of 14:46.28, she established herself as the clear winner. This victory not only secured her a spot in Paris but also demonstrated her ability to excel beyond her favored 1,500m distance.

Following closely behind Kipyegon was Beatrice Chebet, a rising star in the distance running world. Fresh off her triumph as the new 10,000m world record holder, Chebet proved her endurance and speed with a time of 14:52.55. This impressive performance earned her the second automatic qualification slot for the Olympics in the 5,000m. Chebet will be aiming for a remarkable double in Paris, as she has already secured her place in the 10,000m race as well.

The dominance of Kipyegon and Chebet highlights the strength of Kenyan distance running, particularly among women. Their victories not only guarantee Kenya’s presence in the 5,000m final at the Olympics but also raise anticipation for a potential podium sweep. With the Olympics just a few months away, both athletes will undoubtedly be working diligently to refine their form and peak at the right moment, aiming to bring home gold medals for Kenya.
