UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has unveiled a significant donation of Sh82 million towards enhancing infrastructure in Kenya, aimed at promoting green initiatives and fostering cooperation under the G7 framework.

In a press statement during the G7 summit in Apulia, Italy, Sunak emphasized the funds will support planning, prioritization, and implementation of green infrastructure projects.

“Focusing on transport projects aligned with AGII, this partnership signifies a strategic collaboration with the Kenyan government to bolster infrastructure investment,” Sunak stated.

Highlighting the UK’s commitment to fostering a more effective global system, Sunak underscored the importance of supporting countries in their transitions towards clean energy and leveraging opportunities presented by artificial intelligence.

“The green transition and AI development are pivotal components of our strategy to ensure these transformative changes benefit all,” Sunak affirmed.

These initiatives, selected from the Africa Green Industrialization Initiative (AGII), mark a pioneering partnership between the UK, Kenya, and the broader G7 community.

Kenyan President William Ruto, who arrived in Italy Thursday evening, is attending the summit, which focuses on crucial global issues including nuclear security, food security, freedom of navigation, and humanitarian concerns.
