In a swift response to growing concerns from residents, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has successfully captured a 13-foot crocodile that had been freely roaming the Kamunyuni area in Athi River.
The KWS, taking to social media on Monday, June 17, 2024, announced the successful operation and reassured the residents of Kamunyuni in Makueni County of their safety.
“The Kenya Wildlife Service, together with its conservation partners, skillfully captured a 13-foot crocodile that had been a danger to the community near the Athi River,” the wildlife body shared on X “Residents of Kamunyuni in Makueni County can breathe a sigh of relief.”
The crocodile was transported to the Galana River in Tsavo East National Park.
The KWS has encouraged the public to report wildlife incidents promptly to prevent serious harm and to aid in the quick resolution of such situations.
“KWS remains dedicated to community safety and wildlife conservation. To report any wildlife incidents, please call our 24-hour toll-free line at 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726 610 509 for immediate intervention,” the agency stated.
This incident comes on the heels of another wildlife rescue by the KWS. On June 6, a baby crocodile was rescued from a muddy puddle at a construction site in Ruiru, Kiambu County, following heavy rains that had washed the reptile away from its natural habitat.
