Amidst escalating protests against the Finance Bill 2024 across Kenya, Charlene Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto, has publicly defended her father while urging the youth to participate in the country’s discourse in a respectful manner.

Charlene took to social media platform X to express her perspective on the controversial bill and the ongoing demonstrations.

“I stand in a very unique position regarding the issues facing my country Kenya as we speak,” Charlene said, emphasizing her dual identity as both the president’s daughter and a youth champion.

She conveyed her unwavering belief in her father’s dedication to the nation, saying, “Watching my father rise in politics for over 30 years, seeing his work and passion behind the scenes, I have no doubt that he truthfully holds the best interests of Kenyans at heart. “Charlene praised the youth for their active participation in current affairs, highlighting their role as crucial in shaping the nation’s future.

“As a youth champion, I hear the cry of this generation and give my kudos that we not only care about current affairs but have a stand and are willing to raise our concerns. This is a game-changer,” she stated, advocating for informed and respectful engagement in societal issues.

However, Charlene’s remarks have sparked a mixed reaction from the public. Some netizens appreciated her call for unity and informed dialogue, while others criticized her for what they perceived as a lack of concrete action or engagement with the public’s concerns.

One critic on X urged Charlene to use her position to influence her father more directly, stating, “Ask him to stop the abductions, ask him to #rejectfinancebill2024, ask him to return Linda mama, ask him to stop overtaxing us.”

Others expressed frustration over the government’s handling of the protests and economic policies. “STOP LYING!!!! SINCE WHEN DID BEST INTERESTS LOOK LIKE ABDUCTIONS???? TAX HIKES??? CORRUPTION????LIVE BULLETS??” wrote another angry user, reflecting the widespread discontent.

As protests continued, Parliament adopted significant amendments to the Finance Bill 2024, including the removal of proposed taxes on bread, internet, and diaspora remittance.

These changes were among the most contentious, fueling public anger and leading to demonstrations across the country.

Despite the amendments, the public remains largely dissatisfied with the overall bill, criticizing it for exacerbating
