A youth participating in protests in Nairobi’s central business district was rushed to the hospital after a teargas canister exploded in his hand.

The incident occurred when the unidentified protester attempted to hurl the canister back at anti-riot police, who had fired it to disperse the crowd.

The young man was quickly attended to by fellow demonstrators, who wrapped his injured hand with a red cloth before he was taken to the hospital on a motorcycle.

The central business district of Nairobi has been the scene of intense confrontations between police and protesters since early morning. Today marks the fifth consecutive day of demonstrations, which have resulted in significant disruptions across the city.

Major roads leading into Nairobi, including Waiyaki Way and Mombasa Road at Mlolongo, were blocked by protesters, adding to the city’s traffic chaos. For security reasons, police also closed several key roads, such as Processional Way, State House Road, and all access routes to the State House, including Dennis Pritt Road, State House Avenue, Valley Road, and Jakaya Kikwete Road. Parliament Road and City Hall Way were also cordoned off, restricting access for both motorists and pedestrians.
