In a decisive move to ensure justice and transparency, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja announced on Sunday the transfer of all police officers stationed at Kware Police Station.

This action comes in response to the ongoing investigations into the horrific Mukuru killings, where several mutilated bodies were discovered at an abandoned quarry-turned-dumpsite.

Addressing the media, IG Kanja emphasized the necessity of the transfers to guarantee impartial investigations.

“To ensure fair and unbiased investigations, I have moved the officers from Kware Police Station,” he declared. “In this difficult time, we stand with the community and we remain committed to uncovering the truth and bringing those responsible to justice.”

The discovery of multiple bodies, wrapped in polythene bags and sacks tied with ropes, has sparked outrage and demands for accountability among Kenyans.

As of Saturday noon, the number of recovered bodies had risen to 14, all of which were female and reportedly mutilated in a disturbing manner.

The directive to transfer the officers aims to provide investigators the space and objectivity needed to deliver a thorough and just report.

The investigation, spearheaded by the police in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), is set to be concluded within 21 days.

“Our officers, in collaboration with the ODPP, are working tirelessly to conclude the investigations within 21 days,” IG Kanja stated. “The police service and I would like to assure the public that we are committed to conducting transparent, thorough, and swift investigations.”

President William Ruto also weighed in on the matter, directing homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take charge of the probe. “In Nairobi, about 9 bodies have been found and all of them are female.

The government is still investigating the matter,” President Ruto said. “I have directed the police and all those involved including the DCI and homicide to investigate what happened.”

President Ruto reiterated the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that such killings are a gross violation of the Constitution and the bill of human rights. “The killings were against the Constitution and the bill of human rights of any nation,” he stressed.

As investigations continue, the community and the nation at large await justice for the victims of these heinous acts.

The swift action by IG Kanja to transfer the officers underscores a commitment to transparency and accountability in uncovering the truth behind the Mukuru killings.
