Former Isiolo South Member of Parliament Abdi Tepo has been charged with five criminal counts, including possession of forged bank notes, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

Tepo has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution alleges that Tepo was found with 300 pieces of paper designed to resemble special paper used in the production of Euro currency notes.

Additionally, he faces charges for possessing ammunition and a firearm without the necessary licenses.

Tepo was released on a cash bail of Ksh. 100,000 and required to provide one contact person.

The case is scheduled for pretrial mention on August 12, 2024.

Tepo and his wife, Halima Gura Roka, were apprehended by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on July 25, 2024.

The arrest followed an investigation into fraudulent payments amounting to Ksh. 199 million made by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to Beirut Pharmacy and Medical Centre in Eastleigh between 2021 and 2023.

During the investigation, EACC detectives also conducted searches at the residences of Beirut directors Yussuf Maalim Haret, Mohamed Bare Abdille, Virginia Nduku Ngemu, Ubah Hussein Abdi, and Beirut Hospital Administrator Oscar Mburu Murigi.

Tepo reportedly cocked his Ceska handgun upon the detectives’ arrival but eventually allowed them access to his residence.
