Three senior aides of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were interrogated by police on Tuesday in connection with an ongoing investigation into the financing of recent anti-government protests.

The aides, along with two MPs from Nairobi, were questioned at their offices in Karen, Nairobi, in a lengthy session that extended for several hours.

The probe, led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), seeks to uncover individuals who may have funded the violent protests and subsequent looting in Nairobi and Central Kenya.

Police are investigating allegations that the aides organized goons to loot businesses and vandalize property during the protests, which were initially peaceful but escalated into violence.

The aides, who are advisors to the Deputy President, have denied these claims.

Investigators have also received reports of politicians allegedly paying goons to carry out attacks and sabotage.

However, police have indicated that evidence linking the aides to the crimes remains scant.

The case is being pursued with urgency to gather actionable evidence.
