On June 25, Kapseret MP Wainaina Njoroge made a public plea for the return of stolen goods after his Chieni Supermarket in Nyeri was looted by angry youths.
The attackers, enraged by recent events, targeted the store, making off with items valued in the millions.
Speaking at a church gathering, Njoroge addressed the looters directly, urging them to return the stolen freezers and ovens.
He requested church leaders to intervene and encourage the return of the items, expressing a desire to resolve the issue without involving the police.
“I am the owner of Chieni Supermarkets, and the items taken by those you are preaching to are still in your homes,” Njoroge said. “If possible, we do not want to involve the police, so please ask them to return our goods.”
Njoroge expressed frustration, recalling the burning of his five-story building and the subsequent loss of his wealth.
He emphasized his discontent with the situation, stating that the loss and destruction were not in line with Christian values.
The MP reported a significant financial setback from the attack, estimating a loss of KSh 550 million.
He clarified that KSh 450 million of this amount was due to stolen goods, with the remaining KSh 100 million attributed to damaged store fixtures.
