At least six people have lost their lives, and over 40 others have been injured following a tragic multi-vehicle accident near the Migaa area close to Salgaa along the Eldoret-Nakuru road early this morning.

The accident, which occurred around 5 am, involved several vehicles, including a bus traveling from Kericho toward Nakuru.

According to witnesses, the bus, en route to Mombasa, reportedly lost its brakes while navigating a steep section of the road.

The driver, unable to control the speeding vehicle, crashed into barriers and collided with other vehicles before the bus veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati confirmed that police and Kenya Red Cross teams quickly responded to the scene.

“We have a team on the ground coordinating the rescue mission,” said Ombati.

Rescue workers, including police officers and Kenya Red Cross personnel, have been working tirelessly to assist the injured and clear the wreckage.

The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals, including Molo and Coptic Hospitals, where they are receiving treatment.

The Kenya Red Cross, in a statement, emphasized the ongoing rescue efforts, noting,

“The injured individuals have been taken to Molo and Coptic Hospitals following a road traffic incident. The Kenya Red Cross, alongside a multi-agency response team, is still at the scene providing assistance.”

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, while the rescue mission continues.

The Eldoret-Nakuru road, particularly the stretch near Salgaa, is known for its dangerous curves, with several fatal accidents reported over the years.

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies.
