The family of Teresia Ndunge is deeply mourning her untimely death following the tragic Nithi Bridge accident that claimed 12 lives, including members of the Vision Group.
The atmosphere at her home in Rongai is heavy with grief, especially for her son, Dennis Makau, who is struggling to come to terms with the loss of his beloved mother.
Dennis shared his heart-wrenching experience, recalling the last moments he communicated with Teresia. He spoke of a disturbing premonition that had left him unusually anxious, prompting him to check on his mother repeatedly.
“Her final message to me was, ‘We are on our way. We are coming.’ I had messaged her earlier, and she replied that they were on their way.
But as I tried to watch a football match, an uneasy feeling came over me, so I texted her again. Normally, she responds within five minutes, but this time, there was no reply.
I must have called her twenty times, but she didn’t pick up,” Dennis said, his voice trembling with emotion.
The silence from his mother only deepened his anxiety until a friend of hers finally answered one of his calls and informed him about the accident and the ongoing efforts to locate Teresia.
The heartbreaking confirmation of her death on Sunday, September 1, left Dennis with the immense responsibility of caring for his two younger siblings, a role he is now forced to assume in the absence of their mother.
Teresia’s brother, Cosmas Makau, also shared the painful plans his sister had made before her tragic passing. Cosmas revealed that the Vision Group was supposed to visit his home after returning from Meru, a gathering Teresia had eagerly organized.
“She had told me that on the 16th, after coming back from Meru, the group would visit her place. She had made all the arrangements and invited me, asking me to be present for the occasion.
Mom was really looking forward to it,” he recounted, his voice filled with sorrow.
The family’s grief is compounded by the knowledge that this reunion will never take place, leaving them to cope with the devastating loss of Teresia, a mother, sister, and cherished member of their community.
