A tragic accident on the Rameswaram Highway has resulted in the deaths of five family members. The victims include Rajesh, the father, and his two young daughters, Dharshana Rani (8) and Pranaveeka (5).
They collided with a stationary government bus that had stopped to help an ill commuter. The family was returning from the hospital, where they had taken their 12-day-old baby who was unwell.
Details of the Tragedy
In addition to Rajesh and his daughters, the accident claimed the lives of Rajesh’s in-laws, Senthil Manoharan (70) and Angaleswari (60).
As reported by Mulikanews, the taxi driver, along with the baby and the baby’s mother, survived the crash but suffered significant injuries.
Emergency services transported them to Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. The deceased were taken to a government hospital for postmortem and other procedures.
According to local police, the taxi driver lost control and crashed into the rear of the stationary bus.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reported an average of 1,264 accidents and 42 fatalities per day last year.
The report also noted an 11.9% rise in accidents over the past year, highlighting the urgent need for stricter traffic regulations and enhanced safety measures.
